Background
Dr. Marco Pignatari was born in Italy. He completed his Master in Physics at the University of Turin (Italy) in 2003, and obtained his PhD in Astrophysics at the same university in December 2006.
In 2007, he moved to the United Kingdom to become a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Keele, with a project partially developed also at the University of Notre Dame in the USA and at the University of Victoria in Canada (June 2007 - August 2010). In 2010 he was awarded the Ambizione grant by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), and he started as a Junior Research Fellow at the University of Basel in Switzerland (September 2010 - December 2014).
After another postdoctoral fellowship in 2015 at the Observatory of Konkoly in Budapest (Hungary), Marco started a Lectureship Faculty position at the Department of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Hull in the United Kingdom in January 2016. After two consecutive promotions as senior lecturer and reader and as a Director of Research of the Department, in September 2021 he moved back to the Observatory of Konkoly in Hungary as a permanent senior researcher.
Research Interests
Marco's main research interests in astrophysics include production of elements and isotopes in stars and supernovae, the study of the origin of presolar grains anomalies, stellar archaeology and chemical evolution of the Galaxy, and nuclear astrophysics and nuclear reactions in stars.
Research Networks
Marco is currently PI of the international NuGrid collaboration (www.nugridstars.org), Focus Area Coordinator of the American IReNA network (National Science Foundation AccelNet network (https://www.irenaweb.org/) and Executive Board member and JRA Leader of the European ChETEC-INFRA consortium (https://www.chetec-infra.eu).
